The Hunter Beta was a test version B.O.W. (Bio-Organic Weapon) initially created by Umbrella by improving on Dr William Birkins work on an earlier model which was retroactively named Hunter Alpha.
They were lizard-like, with sharp teeth, scaly skin and a bug-like mouth. They were aggressive and protective over their kin.
They were developed by splicing human and reptile DNA together and then introducing the t-Virus. A small number of samples got out into the open when Umbrella decided to dispatch them into Raccoon City for a performance evaluation. UBCS members who had extra Monitor duties had to report their findings back to the company.
Performance results find that the creatures were relatively weak, less aggressive than the Hunter Alpha but on the other hand their intelligence was improved.
Ultimately this model of the Hunter was withdrawn after the Raccoon City test and improvements were made in future models. Eventually the Hunter line of B.O.W.s ended up being extremely profitable for the company.
