Great Knife

The Great Knife is an oversized chef's knife which was initially used by Pyramid Head. It is one of the most powerful weapons in Silent Hill, and it can be picked up and used by James Sunderland.

When the weapon is equipped, it is so devastatingly heavy that it needs to be dragged along the floor with both arms, but the stronger Pyramid Head only requires one arm to do this. When swung by James, the momentum causes him to stumble when using it, and it is quite slow. However, a direct hit will kill most creatures in one, plus it will even stagger Pyramid Head if they are hit with it.

Using the weapon is an extreme challenge, as walking speed is extremely slow, as well as attack speed. In most cases, creatures will be too fast. In reality, the weapon is more of an imposing looking weapon, than a serious weapon, which is possibly one of the reasons why Pyramid Head themselves abandoned it. It has been theorised that the weapon symbolises James' need to carry the burden of killing his wife.

Although this incarnation of the blade does not appear in any other games, similar weapons appear in different Silent Hill media. Most notably in the Silent Hill movie, in which it appears to be much Lighter and much stronger, where it was able to slice through metal with ease and not damage the blade.
