Does anyone recommend any particular web host? It doesn't have to be one you're currently using (if any), maybe you've had a good experience in the past with another.

There are so many web hosting companies out there, ranging from big names with huge farms of servers and clusters.. down to small independent, niche hosts.

The features as well as the costs for a web host vary dramatically also, which makes it quite difficult to narrow down exactly just what good value is. For example some hosts give big discounts upfront, but then bring the hammer down when it comes to renewal... or some hosts will be relatively cheap but then have odd restrictions such as a very low bandwidth cap.

Also, on the flip side — are there any that you would AVOID?

So yeah... What do you guys think?

Depending what you're looking for, I've heard good things about MattW's hosting services (https://mattwservices.co.uk/resources/categories/mws-vps-hosting.11/), but he's sort of specialized in hosting XenForo clients. I'm personally considering switching to KnownHost, they've got a stellar reputation, but they're US-based https://www.knownhost.com/ (currently using BigScoots, who are good, though a bit pricey for the specs they offer). For UK-specific, hosts, I've heard good things about SiteGround, though I know very little about them beyond their stellar network, so they may be amazing or they may be complete rubbish.

We're currently with MattWServices (shared), and it's been the most stress-free experience I've had whilst running XenForo. He's slightly more expensive than other hosts I've used, but you really do get what you pay for.. I don't envisage using anyone else for the foreseeable 👍

Our previous host WSWD (shared) was perfectly fine while things ran smoothly for about 18 months - I used them for a previous project as well as UO initially. Unfortunately when things went wrong, I wasn't particularly impressed with their support and even less so when I made the decision to leave. I'd still recommend them as a cheap host though.

I am currently with InterServer (for a WordPress site) and USHost247 for my general discussion forum and my portfolio. I would recommend both but InterServer is the slightly more expensive option (although they don't really offer anything special). The only reason I'm with them is that I managed to get a permanent $2.50 discount on Black Friday a year ago so it's pretty cheap for me.

My current site uses KnownHost shared hosting (Professional package). I also ran my last site on their service for a short time and I cannot fault them in any way for price, services or customer support.

I've also used StableHost and MDDHosting in the past and also cannot fault either of them.

My only bad experience has using 1&1 Ionos, they were terrible to deal with on every level.

I am currently using Known Host - purely for financial reasons but I cannot fault any aspect of the experience. They are cheap, reliable and their customer service is top notch.

We use Kualo at the moment, don't really have any complaints so far. Sometimes the site does have connection issues but you never know if thats the host or if I've messed something up :P

Quite a few different hosts here! I've not really had a hosted website for many years, but in the past I used a company called eleven2 - I think they were called Sharkspace and changed their name.

I thought it was good service with low pricing, decent options and the uptime was good, but nothing I ever hosted was popular, so I can't realistically say Yeah.. they were good.. as I was unable to stress test it.

I've used StableHost in the past.. I can't remember what my experience was with them hosting XenForo though, so I can't recommend or advise against them either way!

I use 1&1 IONOS for my domains.. They bought out a previous registrar that I was originally with and can't remember the name of! 🤣

I'm currently with Linode. They are cheap and the uptime is great. Support is also at hand and 100% helpful. The only thing is you need to be familiar with using Putty and I'm not really familiar with it so I have my own guy who helps with the server side stuff. As long as you have experience, I think Linode has a lot to offer.
