Been playing this over the halloween, mostly been enjoying it so far.

The story was written by Ryukishi07, who's known for writing Higurashi and Umineko. As a big fan of both those titles I've been looking forward to this game being released since it was announced.

It's got some tropes fans of Higurashi will be familiar with, being set in a rural Japanese town and necessitating multiple playthroughs to fully understand the story. Personally I think they nailed the atmosphere on this one, definitely feels like one of the better SH titles (though I do think I still prefer 1-3).

Really my biggest issue with it is it's a bit too combat-heavy, despite the environments not always allowing for combat.
Like there's certain sections where you can't really just run past the enemies, it's a cramped area and you only have a long weapon, so half your hits just bounce off the wall and cause you to stagger and the enemies just combo you to death.

Certain areas feel like they have just one-too-many enemies in the mob as well. So there's parts where I'm getting a bit frustrated, but overall it's enjoyable and I'd recommend it to people who've lost faith in the franchise.
