Parasite Eve is a survival horror role-playing video game developed and published by SquareSoft (now Square Enix) for the Sony PlayStation console. The game follows the story of Aya Brea, a rookie NYPD officer who becomes embroiled in a series of bizarre and deadly events related to a genetic mutation known as mitochondria. The game combines elements of horror, science fiction, and RPG gameplay, featuring real-time battles, exploration, puzzle-solving, and character development. The game's plot is inspired by the novel of the same name by Hideaki Sena, and its gameplay mechanics were influenced by the Final Fantasy series. Parasite Eve was critically acclaimed upon its release in 1998, and is widely regarded as a classic of the survival horror genre.

Not exactly a "survival horror" game per se, more of a "horror meets RPG".

I never fully understood why this game never got a PAL release, even when it was brought to the PlayStation Store for PS3/Vita, but thankfully even back in the day there were ways around it.. 😉

I've only done a complete playthrough once, but will definitely do another sometime before tackling it's sequel which I've hardly played. I'd highly recommend it if you've never experienced it.
 
Never played it due to it not being released over here, but I think I'll have to grab a copy eventually and play it! I've always wanted to try it..
 
I've never really played these proper, never touched the first one at all but I do own the second one - probably only put an hour or two into it though, and I've heard it's really not as good as the first one anyways.

Funny that you decided to post this today though, as I actually decided to listen to the first games OST this morning pretty much on a whim.
 
Parasite Eve recently celebrated it's 25th anniversary, originally released in Japan on 29th March 1998.. and there's still no sign of a remake or The 3rd Birthday being ported and remastered from the original PlayStation Portable release.

It makes me sad.

Wonder why that might be, I thought the first first one at least would be popular enough for a remake.. but at the same time I can't think of many people I know who've played it :o
