"Come on, you creepy ass stalker! You want S.T.A.R.S.? I'll give you S.T.A.R.S.!"

Jill Valentine is an American former member of S.T.A.R.S. who was one of the first to witness the horrifying t-Virus and all of its infected such as Zombies, Hunters and more powerful B.O.W.s (Bio-Organic Weapons) such as the Tyrant T-002 when she had her team were sent from their base of operations in Raccoon City over to the nearby Arklay Mountains where there were reports of cannibalism in the area.

There, she and her team stumbled upon the labyrinthian Spencer Mansion, later discovered to belong to Umbrella and contain a huge underground laboratory where all the research and development occurred on the t-Virus and other Biohazard science.

Her expertise was in tactics and she also was extremely proficient in using lock picking tools.

She made it out of the mansion but along the way she discovers that her team captain Albert Wesker was working secretly for Umbrella. She also had to battle through various traps and swathes of different creatures - throughout most of her journey she was assisted by Barry Burton, who had known Jill for many years and acted as a mentor of sorts and the duo worked together to solve various puzzles and discuss tactics along the way.

Eventually things came to a head where Wesker had released the T-002 and the beast engaged the entire team. The helicopter pilot Brad Vickers appeared in the nick of time and dropped a Rocket Launcher to the ground which Jill used to eliminate the creature and escape.

When she and the others returned to their base in Raccoon City, they were soon disbanded for reasons unknown to them and the city fell due to its own t-Virus outbreak where the water supply was contaminated with the virus - thus making the entire city a dangerous quarantine zone.

As Umbrella needed to silence those that knew about the Spencer Mansion incident, they created a specific type of B.O.W. called the Nemesis T-Type; this was created and then dispatched to the city to hunt down and eliminate all remaining S.T.A.R.S. members, where it continually pursued Jill and her ex-pilot Brad. It unfortunately managed to eliminate Brad but Jill evaded it on various occasions until ultimately she defeated the beast with an experimental rail cannon.

Along the way she met with UBCS (Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service) soldiers who had varying understanding of what was happening in the city due to some members being given different briefings. Some assumed they were there to conduct a rescue operation, but others were given extra duties such as destroying Umbrella evidence as well silencing those who were working on a vaccine for the t-Virus.

Jill ended up being a victim during her Raccoon City escape, attaining an infection from a wounded Nemesis T-Type. However her life was later saved when UBCS soldier Carlos Oliveira managed to retrieve any-Virus vaccine sample and inject her with it which led to her recovery - but as a by-product her body began to create t-Virus antibodies.

After her successful escape from the city she was captured by H.C.F. under a team led by Wesker who was working with them at the time. He recognised that Jill produced valuable t-Virus antibodies and kept her in a deep sleep while he continued to conduct experiments on her body. After a time he managed to brainwash her with a device implanted on her chest which continued to deliver performance-enhancing drugs, turning her into a personal bodyguard of sorts.

She was saved from her bonds when her ex-S.T.A.R.S. colleague Chris Redfield and his new partner Sheva Alomar who at the time were working with the anti-Umbrella BSAA - entered combat with her and managed to remove the device from her chest, which gradually helped her return to her normal self. Due to all the experiments on her body her hair was turned bright white / pale blonde.

Eventually Wesker was defeated and Jill managed to escape the area with the others.
