Anyone else here a fan of these games? They started on the PS2 and at first glance probably just look like a GTA rip-off, but they're far less sandbox-y and the crime dramas within the stories are often far more intensely told than what you'd see in a GTA.
Then, you have the completely absurd side missions - like sneaking past Grannies so you can buy a porno mag from a vending machine for a 10 year old :D

I've only played 0 and the 2 Kiwami remakes so far. Really looking forward to playing Like a Dragon, and now that that's out I reckon Sega will work to bring the rest of the series to PC.

Not yet, although I have one of them on my PS3 from when it was given away with PS Plus (Kiwami i think?).

I quite liked the look of Judgment when it was on sale recently, but resisted picking it up.

Kiwami is a good game, but coming off the heels of 0 which is where a lot of people would start it can feel like it's just DLC, being made in the same engine & re-using assets. It's still a pretty good game and it's more up to date with Yakuza's current identity (the original PS2 game didn't really have any silly/comedic side-stories) so I would recommend trying it out when you have the time, especially if it's already in your library. Though, 0 & Kiwami 2 are a lot better IMO.

Judgement does look great and I actually keep forgetting about it. I hope Sega will bring that to PC in due time also.

HUGE fan of these games.

Yakuza Zero it's definitely the game I would point people towards if they were into the series. It's outrageously funny.

Judgment is an amazing game also, but I still preferred the Kiryu stuff overall.

I've recently started playing Like a Dragon - I just think it's absolutely bat-shit insane that they've made the combat into a full on JRPG. I've not had time to play a great deal of it yet but what I have played so far seems fun, and what I've heard about it... highly positive.

Oh, and definitely use Japanese speech with English subtitles. You'll find the game a lot funnier and more engrossing - they actually have slightly different dialogue when you use the English VO and I've found it's not as amusing as they tend to use more unusual language in the Japanese - English subtitles.

Yeah 0 is definitely the best all-rounder of the series IMO, and goes on sale quite often. Love that Hostess mini-game too that they also have in Kiwami 2.

I've been playing Like a Dragon last few days also and it's great, I've just gotten far enough that all the sub-stories have started becoming available, I believe it's Chapter 4. The turn-based combat wasn't half as jarring as I initially suspected it would be to adjust to, but I think maybe them dropping the numerical title and naming it like a spin-off instead plays a large part in this (it's Yakuza 7 in JP but Like a Dragon overseas). I'm totally loving Ichiban as a protagonist too, he can be just as bewildered as Kiryu but he's way more hot-headed about things.

And you're spot-on with the voices, they're the cherry on top IMO, it's one of the few series I'll always insist on using the original JP voices - I know little Japanese but the VA in this game always has me in stitches.

I think this series demands more attention. A large number of the games are now available on Game Pass so there is little excuse not to try if you've got a PC or Xbox.

Zero is the best both for newcomers and in general (in my opinion), but the latest one is ridiculously funny.

These games know what they are, and its intentionally dramatic in all the wrong places.. the humour is just spot on.

And yeah I'm loving Ichiban. At first I was a bit uneasy about not playing as Kiryu.. but it works. So far my favourite character is the homeless guy (can't remember his name)... he just looks so stern. I always laugh whenever he levels up.

Yeah they're becoming really accessible and they're always super reasonably priced, I am seeing it get more and more popular as time goes on which is great. Convinced my friend to pick up the Remastered collection on PS4 and he's bet into it :D

I've still not finished LaD yet but yeah Ichiban is great, I really enjoyed playing as him.

I have not played it but I have seen it advertised on the Series X. It doesn't look worth the original $60 price tag and I probably won't be picking it up merely for the fact that I probably won't play it much. It doesn't look as fun as they advertise. I like fast paced multiplayer shooters like Halo.
