When you are deciding on purchasing a survival horror game, what are some of the most important things you look for or consider? The things it must have before you spend the big bucks on it.

Is it how scary it is? Is it the isolation? Or maybe it is the lingering fear?

Please do tell us.

It's quite difficult to put my finger on it.. I tend to watch trailers and reviews, particularly if it's a relatively unknown game or a new IP. It's got to grab my attention in some way even if it's something small, and it has to look like something that I want to play and invest my time in.

..then of course, sales always help! 😅

Quality of the atmosphere is a key thing for me; anything that's a bit too flat I'll just give a miss instead. If there's a real threat in the game I will be drawn to it.

Some key games for me outside of Resident Evil :- Alien Isolation, Penumbra, Layers of Fear, Until Dawn, Soma

I'll also check out some reviews to get a taste for the games atmosphere, which I find is the most important aspect of a survival horror game. If it just looks like it's a bunch of jump scares then I'm not interested, but interesting sound design and such is what I'd be on the look out for.

If I was to purchase a survival horror game I would want it to be super scary. If it's not scary enough then there's no point. However I tend to like zombie survival horror games. Those tend to be my favorite. Anything with zombies in it would be something I'd like. There's one game I absolutely loved called Dying Light. That was one of my favorite zombie games of all time.

My criteria is such that I make sure to look at the story. I make sure to look at the graphics and also the overall gameplay experience. I find such type of the experience pretty much good for the survival horror gameplay a good option for myself.
